A well-executed burp is a thing of beauty. And although I
ahem would never stoop to such unladylike emissions, not everyone in my life is so discreet.
Certainly not the thong-clad man who thought – wrongly – that he was alone in the aisle at Coles.
It was loud enough to flatten corn, but since I was looking for something lighthearted to learn today, it did inspire my latest knowledge quest – what is the loudest ever burp on record?
The answer, according to Guinness World Records, is 109.9 decibels. And that’s just for the men.
The feat was achieved by UK resident Paul Hunn, who notched up his impressive feat on August 23, 2009.
But he was almost matched by one Elisa Cagnoni of Italy, who burped to the level of 107.0 decibels at the 13th annual Hard Rock Beer festival ‘Ruttosound’ competition in Reggiolo on June 16, 2009. What a woman!
For the record 90-95dB is the level at which sustained exposure may result in hearing loss.
